Matt Mercer
Matt Mercer is from Lacey, WA and went to the University of Oregon. He was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 5th round of the 2018 draft. During the summer of 2018 with the Hops, Matt threw 27 innings, and struck out 37 batters. His peak outing was in the 2018 playoffs when he threw 4 PERFECT innings and struck out 6.
Keshawn Lynch
Keshawn is from Lake Hamilton, Florida, and was drafted in the 14th round of the 2017 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks out of the State JC of Florida. In 2017 he played for the Missoula Osprey and was a Pioneer League All-Star in the All-Star game played here at Ron Tonkin Field. In 2018 he played for the Hops all season and was known for incredible defensive efforts at 2nd base making countless top 10 plays
Ryan Weiss
Ryan Weiss is from South Elgin IL and attended Wright State University. He was drafted in the 4th round of the 2018 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Weiss appeared in 12 games during the summer of 2018, and threw just over 29 innings, racking up 27 strikeouts and astoundingly ONLY walking 4 batters. He played a crucial part of the success the Hops had this season in setting a franchise record in wins.
Jonny Gomes
Jonny Gomes played in parts of 13 MLB seasons for the Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves and the Kansas City Royals. He was drafted in 2001 in the 18th round by the Tampa Bay Rays and made his MLB debut in 2003. In his first full season in 2005, he finished 3rd in the rookie of the year voting. Jonny was known for his ferocious effort, hitting massive HR’s, and even getting in a scuffle with one of our former managers, Shelley Duncan. He won the 2013 World Series with the Boston Red Sox, and even hit a HR in the World Series! He was also on the Roster of the Kansas City Royals in 2015 when they won the World Series, so Mr. Gomes has 2 World Series Rings. That was his last season in MLB, and he is now currently a hitting instructor for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
JUST ANNOUNCED! Hops' 2017/2018 Manager Shawn Roof
Shawn
Roof was drafted in the 33rd round of the 2007 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers.
He spent five years playing professional baseball and made it as high as AAA
with the Tigers before moving on to the Baltimore Orioles organization. He had
2 seasons filled with injury before moving onto his coaching career. He joined
the Diamondbacks organization in 2016, coaching for the Kane County Cougars,
the level above the Hillsboro Hops before earning a Managers position with
Hillsboro in 2017. Roof managed the Hillsboro Hops in 2017 and 2018. He went 41-35,
and then 51-25, for a combined managerial record of 92-70 in the NWL, including
winning all four halves of the two seasons. In 2018 he won the NWL Manager of
the year.
